Form



The curved edge responds to the shoreline, while the straight edge reads a strong linear marker against the backdrop of the civic district. When approaching from National Gallery, one hardly notices the installation as a subtle 55m long plinth. Only upon venturing further afield does one discover the hidden historical shoreline.


From Esplanade Park and Connaught Drive, one witneses a strip of pulsating white light glowing at night against the backdrop of the National Gallery. This is meant to evoke  Sang Nila Utama’s sighting of the white beach as recorded in the Malay Annals.
